Convento São Francisco de Mértola
Meditation Space
Many places within the convent and its grounds are suitable for quiet contemplation, writing, music making, dancing, tai-chi, yoga etc.
Two spaces dedicated to this purpose are the "meditation" chapel, with a space of 80 square metres and an outdoor ancient stone circle. Thought to be an ‘eira’ or ritual threshing floor, it is situated at the top of a hill surrounded by mature Eucalyptus trees. It has a circumference of 20 metres, positioned at the mid point of the surrounding uplands and an Iron Age wall. (See History)
